Hemp for Victory
Hemp for Victory is a black-and-whiteUnited Statesgovernment film made during World War II and released in 1942, explaining the uses of hemp, encouraging farmers to grow as much as possible. During World War II, the Marihuana Tax Act of 1937 was lifted briefly to allow for hemp fiber production to create ropes for the U.S. Navy but after the war hemp reverted to its de facto illegal status.[1]
History[edit]
The film was made to encourage farmers to grow hemp for the war effort because other industrial fibers, often imported from overseas, were in short supply. The film shows a history of hemp and hemp products, how hemp is grown, and how hemp is processed into rope, cloth, cordage and other products.
Before 1989, the film was relatively unknown. The United States government denied ever having made such a film.[2] The United States Department of Agriculture[3] library and the Library of Congress told all interested parties that no such movie was made by the USDA or any branch of the U.S. government. Two VHS copies were recovered and donated to the Library of Congress on 19 May 1989 by Maria Farrow, Carl Packard, and Jack Herer.
The Great Book Of Hemp
The only known copy in 1976 was a 3/4' broadcast quality copy of the film that was originally obtained by William Conde in 1976 from a reporter for the Miami Herald and the Ethiopian Zion Coptic Church of Jamaica. It was given in trust that it would be made available to as many as possible. It was put into the hands of Jack Herer by William Conde during the 1984 Oregon Marijuana Initiative. The film is now available in numerous locations on the Internet.
The 1990 case that the film Hemp For Victory was delivered in.
In July 1989, Jack Herer together with Chris Wright, of the Grassroots Party, attempted to obtain a copy from the National Archives where it was listed, but the curators were unable to locate the film. Subsequently, in May 1990, the founder of The Institute for Hemp, John Birrenbach, recovered a copy of the film from the National Archives. [4] The film was a two part film the first section being 6:46 the second being 7:16 long. Together the approx 15 minute film detailed the cultivation of cannabis for fiber. This was the first recovery of the film from a government source. This film can now be downloaded from the National Archives.[5]
Hemp for Victory was produced by the US Department of Agriculture, and contained scenes from the 1926 silent film Old Ironsides. It is public domain and is freely available for download from the Internet Archive.
The film, as well as clips shown, was referenced to in an episode of 10 Things You Don't Know About on marijuana and its history.
Book[edit]
Hemp for Victory is also the title of a book about hemp, published 2006 in London by Whitaker Press (ISBN0-9549939-0-X). It is the work of several authors active in the hemp world, including Kenyon Gibson, Nick and Cindy Mackintosh, Woody Harrelson, Mina Hegaard and Sam Heslop.
Sequel[edit]
In 2008 efforts were made to make a sequel of the movie by UK-based production houses as a series of short films. It was developed as a three film series of 60 minutes each. The first part is starred by David Hayman and Jack Herer. The second part released at the 2009 Seattle HempFest had Steve Levine and Andrea Hermann on the speaker panel.[6] The movie did not have a full official release. It was released as a 2012 remake at select locations.[7]

NO ONE UNDERSTANDS CBD BETTER THAN WE DO
What Is CBD?
CBD (Cannabidiol) is a chemical compound that comes from the hemp plant. It is one of over 85 unique compounds found in hemp, known as cannabinoids.
Cannabinoids, which can be either consumed (phytocannabinoids) or produced naturally by the body (endocannabinoid), are chemical compounds that interact with the body’s central regulatory system. This system is known to manage homeostasis and affect bodily processes such as appetite, mood and sleep.
CBD is an example of a phytocannabinoid. Although our bodies can naturally produce its own endocannabinoids that bind to cannabinoid receptors in both the central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system, phytocannabinoids are known to help to kickstart our central regulatory system.

How Does It Work?
Where Does It Come From
CBD is extracted and separated from specific varieties of cannabis. It is the second most abundant compound in cannabis, typically representing up to 40% of its extracts.
CBD is a compound that can be found in both psychoactive cannabis (marijuana) and non-psychoactive cannabis (hemp). However, most legal CBD products that you find on the market will be extracts from hemp, as federal law allows for the cultivation, processing and marketing of hemp and hemp products
How It Affects The Body
The body does create its own cannabinoids, called endocannabinoids, to help support our regulatory system. This central system helps to keep our bodies balanced day to day, including: appetite, pain sensation, mood, memory, immune system functions, and inflammation control.
Similar to how we use vitamin C to kick start our immune system, CBD acts as a kick starter for these cannabinoids to to keep the receptors working at optimal capacity and to help the functions of the body’s central regulatory system.
Does CBD Get You High?
CBD often gets mixed up with THC, which is another cannabinoid found in cannabis. Yet, it’s important to distinguish them as they have fundamentally different properties and benefits.
THC, an intoxicating and illegal substance, is responsible for causing marijuana users to get “high.” Unlike THC, CBD is non-psychoactive because it does not act on the same pathways as THC. Thus, it is impossible to get “high” by smoking or ingesting CBD or CBD oil extracted from industrial hemp plants, as they only have minuscule traces of THC (<0.3%).

CBD Hemp Oil Effects
Biological Stability
“Cannabinoids have been found to have antioxidant properties, unrelated to NMDA receptor antagonism. This new found property makes cannabinoids useful in the treatment and prophylaxis of wide variety of oxidation associated diseases, such as ischemic, age-related, inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. The cannabinoids are found to have particular application as neuroprotectants, for example in limiting neurological damage following ischemic insults, such as stroke and trauma, or in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and HIV dementia.
Nonpsychoactive cannabinoids, such as cannabidiol, are particularly advantageous to use because they avoid toxicity that is encountered with psychoactive cannabinoids at high doses useful in the method of the present invention.”

Check out our Best CBD Oil Reviews page, which we’re always updating to bring you the latest hemp CBD products & reviews.
Tinctures
Tinctures are taken by dropping a couple drops on your tongue. Tinctures are typically offer a lot stronger concentration of CBD than any other CBD products. Concentration can range from 100mg-1000mg.
Usage Advice: A tincture is known to be most effective by not swallowing the liquid right away. You want to ingest as much as you can sub-bilingually. Place the drops under your tongue and along the cheeks for as long as you can.
Concentrates
CBD concentrates typically contain the strongest dosage of CBD compared to any other CBD products. It can contain up to 10 times the average CBD products. Concentrates are also convenient in that it only takes a few seconds to consume. Overall, CBD concentrates seem to be most popular among customers who are extremely busy, yet seek high potency CBD.
Usage Advice: Hemp concentrates come in dispensable oral applicators. Press suggested serving size onto the tip of your finger or a spoon and place under the tongue. Place the drops under your tongue for some time before you swallow.
Capsules
CBD capsules are a great way to add CBD to your diet as a daily supplement. It is much easier to take than tinctures. Capsules typically offer ~25mg of CBD.
Usage Advice: Capsules are great as it’s the easiest to take in your daily regimen. Just take recommending serving (or as needed) daily with water.
Topicals
More brands have started to add CBD onto topicals, such as lotions, salve, and lip balms, for its skin benefits. CBD topicals are known to help with chronic pain, inflammation, acne, psoriasis, cancer treatment, anti-aging, and so many more.
For topical products, always look for keyword on the product labels that indicate that the product uses nano technology, encapsulation, or micellization of CBD. This shows that their solution can carry CBD through the dermal layers, rather than just staying on the skin.
Usage Advice: CBD infused topicals are recommended to be used as other similar body care products – use it when you deem necessary or when you have certain skin conditions.
Sprays
CBD sprays are typically the weakest in concentration among the different type of CBD products. You spray one serving (or as needed) of the bottle into your mouth. Typical concentration of CBD sprays ranges from 1-3mg.
Usage Advice: Spray one serving of the bottle into your mouth. Serving size should be labeled on the bottle (typically 2-3 sprays). Use daily or as needed.
Vape Juices
Based on reviews, smoking or vaporizing CBD vape oil seems to have less effects when compared to other methods of administering CBD, such as tinctures, capsules and sprays. On the flip side, others argue that smoking or vaporizing has less drawbacks than taking CBD orally, since ingesting CBD orally could result in inconsistent absorption and a delayed effect.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQS)
Did we miss something? Email us at [email protected] with any other questions
I’ve Found Products Called “Hemp Extract Oil”, “Phytocannabinoid Oil”, “Hemp Oil” – Are They All The Same?
Yes, these are just different terminologies that brands in the CBD industry use. If you’re unsure whether it’s a CBD oil or not, you should always check to see if the product has any descriptions about ‘dosage’ or ‘concentration’. However, do not confuse CBD oil with hemp seed oil, which are fundamentally different.
What Is The Difference Between CBD Hemp Oil And Hemp Seed Oil?
Hemp Seed Oil is derived from the hemp seeds and are mainly used for dietary purposes (imagine something similar to coconut oil). Refined hemp seed oil can also be used in beauty care products, as they have amazing skin care properties. CBD Hemp oil is not the same thing as hemp seed oil, as it is extracted from one of hemp’s many cannabinoids and have fundamentally different properties.
Do I Need A Doctor’s’ Prescription Or Medical Marijuana Card (Red Card)?
No. Since hemp-derived CBD products are dietary supplements, there is no need to obtain a doctor’s recommendation or to live in a medical marijuana state to have our products delivered to your door.
Please note that there are CBD oil products that are derived from medical marijuana, in which case, you will need to either have a doctor’s prescription or live in a medical marijuana state.
Before beginning any new supplement routine, it is suggested you consult your doctor.
Can I Give CBD Oil To My Pets?
Yes, there are CBD oil brands that offer pet tinctures, which has been known to help with animals that suffer from anxiety. Again, we advise that you do your own research on CBD and dosage before trying it out.
How Much CBD Should I Take?
This is a difficult question to answer because our customers find differences in their personally optimal serving size. We suggest you start low and ease your way up to larger servings if desired until you find the daily CBD levels that work best for you.
If you have questions about which CBD product may fit your needs, please contact us.
What’s The Difference Between CBD Hemp Oil And The Hemp Products I Buy At The Grocery Store?
Hemp products sold in grocery and health food stores are most often created using hemp seed oil, which can contain only trace amounts of CBD. While it has been noted that hemp seed oil can be a great source of nutrition, its marginal quantity of CBD per weight makes it unfeasible as a CBD supplement.
CBD hemp oil, however, is extracted from the stalk of specifically selected hemp cultivars, offering higher percentages of CBD by weight and additional nutritional benefits from the contents of our oil.

I Love Marijuana The Story Behind The Recording
Manager Mickey Michaels, an occasional social pot smoker took notice that there weren't that many Marijuana Rock Songs in an era where Marijuana seems to be legalized each day. So he decided to write a Marijuana Anthem: 'I Love Marijuana.' The idea was to incorporate the basic phrase 'I Love Marijuana' with a strong Bo Diddley beat powered by Eddie Edwards drumming. Michaels set up the basic gist of the song to Eddie and Eddie and The Hemp Potter 4 expanded on the original lyrics and Mike's ideas. Producer and Engineer Pat Collier, a co-founder of The Vibrators with Eddie, brought everything home at Perry Vale Studios (www.perryvalestudios.com)'I Love Marijuana' is currently only being sold as a Download and can be purchased online at CD Baby

In Hemp Bound:Dispatches from the Front Lines of the Next Agricultural Revolution, bestselling author Doug Fine embarks on a humorous yet rigorous journey to meet the men and women who are testing, researching, and pioneering hemp’s applications for the twenty-first century. From Denver, where Fine hitches a ride in a hemp-powered limo; to Asheville, North Carolina, where carbon-negative hempcrete-insulated houses are sparking a mini housing boom; to Manitoba where he raps his knuckles on the hood of a hemp tractor; and finally to the fields of east Colorado, where practical farmers are looking toward hemp to restore their agricultural economy—Fine learns how eminently possible it is for this misunderstood plant to help us end dependence on fossil fuels, heal farm soils damaged after a century of growing monocultures, and bring even more taxable revenue into the economy than its smokable relative.
Fine’s journey will not only leave you wondering why we ever stopped cultivating this miracle crop, it will fire you up to sow a field of it for yourself, for the nation’s economy, and for the planet.

During the Middle Ages hemp was used to treat fevers, insomnia, and malaria. Columbus's ships had sails of hemp, and during colonial times it was universally grown because its strong fibers made superior ropes, sails..more

Good read about all aspects of hemp in use, cultivation, politics,and-most notably-in history, in addition to more. Did not cover the topic of cultivation and processing though..Although it does state 'uses' in the title, I feel it does not deserve the title of 'great book' or 'complete guide' since it lacks a more complete aspect on the topic. There are a few good statistics, but if you want to learn the history and not really a complete processing of hemp in contemporary farming then it is no..more
